The World Today

What does everyone think about the current conflict in the Middle East? I believe it began in Tunisia, eventually spread to Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Libya, etc. Was the UN sanctioned no-fly-zone a good idea? Is western intervention justified? Should they intervene in all of the countries where human rights violations have occurred? What should be done with the ousted leaders? Should Mubarak and Gaddafi be tried by the International Court of Justice or by their own local courts?

  1. I have the crazy idea that countries should not exist. Now, with that premise:

Was the UN sanctioned no-fly-zone a good idea?
Maybe not excellent, but good enough.

    Is western intervention justified?
i'm sure it is. But, is it justified to pursue other interests during an intervention?

Should they intervene in all of the countries where human rights violations have occurred?
I would love to see a global effort to stop human rights violations. I would love to see a new Universal Declaration of Human Rights even more.

What should be done with the ousted leaders?
In depends on every case, but an International Court should be good enough (again, just enough).

Should Mubarak and Gaddafi be tried by the International Court of Justice or by their own local courts?
International Courts tend to be less vindictive. However, I really doubt Mubarak or Gaddafi are going to stand before any court in the immediate future.

Thinking about it, maybe every single ruler should be tried upon leaving its position.
